Early History and Colonization of Luna

The Britannic Trading Company was a Crown Corporation operated under the United Kingdom for the purpose of colonizing space and trading with British colonies. The company was chartered in 1877 and spearheaded the colonization of Luna, creating the first Lunar settlement in 1888. Throughout its existence the company primarily focused on colonization. The company's fleets were militarized during the War of the Worlds, during which the Royal Navy was spread too thin to adequately protect its far flung colonies, and the company would only become more militarized as it expanded during the second age of exploration. The company became increasingly controversial during the second age of exploration, leading to the Britannic Debates and eventually the Britannic War of Independence in 1932.

The company was headquartered in London for most of it's existence, relocating to Victoria IIa in 1930 amidst growing tensions with the British government. The company's charter was dissolved by parliament in late 1931, but company rule would continue de facto until the formal establishment of the Britannic Republic in 1932.
