FRENCH ASTRALE FACES FAMINE
French Prime Minister Charles Duclerc today announced a state of emergency throughout the French Astrale, as widespread drought and crop failures on multiple agri-worlds are set to cause widespread food shortages. Without foreign assistance, the French government expects famine to follow.
The crisis raises doubts about the effectiveness of French terraforming practices, already in question after several minor world's being terraformed with French assistance have also suffered in recent years.
French agricultural output was already at record lows last year, forcing many colonies to exhaust their stockpiles and introducing rationing. Early crop failures on Martinique threw the planet into widespread unrest last month, forcing Duclerc's increasingly unpopular government to deploy troops to restore order. Shortages in the reason have forced some to turn to piracy, a threat the French Navy has so far been unable to adequately counter.
BRITANNIC FRANCHISE CONTINUES GROWTH
The price of a Britannic Franchise continues its record growth, reaching a new peak of 350 Grands this week. Renewed colonization efforts are expected to offset an otherwise disappointing year, brought down by labor unrest and increased pirate activity.
COLONIZATION OF AQUILINE DEPTHS APPROVED
Director of Colonization Richard Assheton today announced that next year's colonization drive would be in the Aquiline Depths, a largely unpopulated starfield with rich mineral deposits. The drive is expected to last up to a decade, and will center its efforts on Almia III, a planet with high terraforming potential.
